A map is the key communication tool when it comes to navigating a trail system. Not unlike transit maps, the art of communicating trail information begins with a good base map that balances contrast, content and clarity of presentation. Effective portrayal of trail routing atop the base map is dependent upon colour, weight, style and shape of the lines and symbols used on the map. Distance charts, points of interest, and information tables are additional tools used when Moving People along the trail.
